I originally got into cycling when I was 11 years old, riding and racing as a novice around Canterbury. Eventually I rode representing Canterbury, but life took over and I gave it all up.
Like many Kiwis I took an OE, which lasted 3 years and meant I arrived home with very little money. I decided to open a second hand furniture store; with $6000 I bought all the quality furniture I could find, with the philosophy of setting the store out as if it was a market new store. I offered great service and competitive pricing.
It didn’t take long before we couldn’t find enough second hand furniture to replenish the store every week! I moved my shop into the High Street and we switched to selling new furniture, but with the same commitment to great service, quality products and very competitive prices. Later we moved to Fitzgerald Avenue, and a few years later we had stores in Nelson, Queenstown, Dunedin and Christchurch. One of my professional highlights was winning 2008 shop of year for the Canterbury region for the overall best shop, best service and best layout.
A few years ago I bought a mountain bike and fell in love with McLeans Island and the Burwood Forest rides. We moved to Cashmere and I found the hills too tough, so bought an e-bike in January. Now I ride up Worsley Road or Rapaki Track and the Summit Road without a problem, enjoying every minute of it. In addition to cycling I enjoy golfing; now with our new golf scooters it is so much quicker and more exciting.
It made sense to combine my passion for e-bikes with my retail experience, and eMegastore is the result. Our shop has a choice of over 55 e-bikes at least 40 e- scooters.
Neither my career or my passions in life would be possible without my supportive family. My long term partner has been part of the business for 12 years. We have our beautiful daughter, Georgia – and not forgetting Tiger the dog!
